Doctor came in and broke the amnio sac and from there things sped up quite a bit. Mom started booming and was ready to start labor. The doctor returned after an hour or so and said we were all ready. Within three contractions and three big pushes, Kate was born. The delivery was uncomplicated and Kate was soon in Mom’s arms. I counted 20 digits and guessed everything would be OK. I called Mom’s friends and both grandparents. Then it was off to the nursery. You had your first bath and started getting a little cranky. Mom is doing well in recovery

More waiting. Took a tour of the area around the hospital again. Haven’t found anything too unique. Enjoyed some Thai food for lunch - a salad and spicy chicken soup. Mom is still hanging in there, although it seems like we still have some time to go.

Mom had her epidural. Her blood pressure dropped and she felt a little nausea, but the staff gave her something like ephedrine and her blood pressure came back and she felt better. After the epidural, she didn’t feel her subsequent contractions. The hospital has plenty of light control so it feels much later than 14:30. Dad still can’t get an IP address so this will be posted later.

Nearly noon. The hospital suffered a power surge. The computers went offline and there was some panic in the nurses den. Could they run a hospital without power? The UPS systems held strong and there were no big surprises. Mom is hanging steady. Not much else to report. Wireless gateway isn’t handing out IP addresses, so this post will be delayed.

Mom and I arrived at the hospital a little after six AM. Mom insists Dad was not prepared -- packing in the morning, getting the car seat in Grandma and Grandpa’s car, and probably more issues. Admittance was the standard process of lots of questions. We got up to the Labor & Delivery unit and it began to feel somewhat familiar. More questions for Mom, a visit from Dr Panther, and some time with our RN -- Cathy.

Mom started the bags of inducing chemicals around 8:30. Dad took some time to get coffee. I guess we were both getting ready for the day. Mom’s day will be much longer and more difficult than mine. Dad found wireless in the hospital which is a pleasant surprise since Mom is already getting groggy.
